OpenAI Dots for Google Ads: Scheduled Checks That Flag What Needs You

Connect OpenAI Dots to Google Ads through MCP Ads to check search terms, pacing, impression share and change history on a schedule, with fixes you approve.

Most Google Ads problems are cheap if you catch them on Tuesday and expensive if you catch them at month end: a search term that started matching job seekers, a budget that runs out by noon, a campaign someone paused by mistake. An OpenAI dot can run those checks on a schedule once it is connected to MCP Ads, and come back only when a number moves. This guide covers the checks worth scheduling, the prompts, and what your dot can and cannot change.

What your dot can see in Google Ads

Once connected, your dot reaches the same Google Ads reports you would open one by one: an account overview with spend, clicks, conversions, CTR, average CPC and ROAS; a daily trend; campaign, ad group, keyword and ad performance; the search terms that actually triggered your ads, with search-term insights for Performance Max campaigns; and breakdowns by device, location, hour of day, age and gender, and landing page.

The diagnostic reports matter most for a scheduled agent. Budget pacing shows each active campaign's daily budget against what it has spent. Auction insights shows impression share and how much of it was lost to budget versus rank. Quality score returns the overall score with its three parts: landing page experience, expected CTR and ad relevance. Change history lists what changed, when and by whom. If you manage client accounts, your dot can list every account under a manager (MCC) account; name the one you mean in each request. The Google Ads MCP server page lists the full set.

Connect it in a few minutes

Dots use the same apps and connectors as ChatGPT, so MCP Ads is added once in ChatGPT and your dot can then use it. The MCP Ads plugin is in review for the ChatGPT plugin directory; until it is listed, you add it as a custom connector in Developer mode. There is no API key to copy: you sign in through the browser.

Connect Google Ads first under Connections in the MCP Ads dashboard. It uses your Google sign-in, and the same sign-in later covers GA4, Search Console and Merchant Center, each with its own permission.

In a Business workspace, custom connectors may need an admin to turn on Developer mode first. The Dots setup page and the Dots docs have the same steps.

Dots follow ChatGPT's permissions, and you can add rules for which tasks need your approval. Research a dot does on its own is read-only; tasks you give it or schedule can act, under their own rules and approvals, on top of the approval controls in MCP Ads.

The steps:

  • In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins → Browse plugins, and turn on Developer mode if custom connectors are not offered yet.
  • Add a custom connector named MCP Ads with the URL https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim.
  • Sign in through the browser window that opens, with the login that owns your MCP Ads account.
  • Let your dot use the MCP Ads app, then ask it: "Once you are in, list my Google Ads accounts and tell me one thing in the main account I should fix today."

Checks worth scheduling

A scheduled check is only useful if it stays quiet when nothing is wrong. Give each one a threshold and tell your dot to report only what crossed it. The thresholds below are illustrative; set them from your own account's normal range. You can message the dot in ChatGPT, Slack or Microsoft Teams to follow up on a flag, and open its cloud computer to see which reports it pulled.

Prompts that work

Name the account, the date range and the threshold. For scheduled prompts, say what the report should contain and what it should leave out.

  • Find search terms with over $50 spend and zero conversions in the last 30 days and group them into negative keyword themes. Do not add anything yet.
  • Which campaigns lost the most impression share to budget last week, and which lost it to rank?
  • Show keywords with quality score below 5 that spent more than $100 this month, with the weakest of the three components for each.
  • Compare this week with last week by device and tell me if mobile CPA moved more than 20%.
  • Every Monday at 9, pull last week in Google Ads and send me spend, conversions and the one campaign that needs attention.
  • Every weekday at 1 pm, check budget pacing and message me only if a campaign has already spent more than 80% of its daily budget.
  • Every Monday at 8, list changes made in the account in the last 7 days that I did not ask you to make.

What your dot can change, and what waits for you

On the write side, MCP Ads gives your dot campaign-level negative keywords and shared negative lists, pausing and enabling campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords, daily budgets, keyword bids and match types, target CPA and target ROAS, responsive search ads, sitelinks and callouts, ad schedules, location and language targets, applying or dismissing Google's recommendations, and copying a campaign. New campaigns and ad groups are created paused unless you say otherwise, so nothing spends until someone switches it on.

Budgets, statuses and new campaigns go through the approval and workspace controls in MCP Ads. Your dot can prepare the change, such as a list of 14 negatives or a budget move from one campaign to another, and it goes live when you approve it. Your dot also sees only the Google Ads accounts connected in MCP Ads.

Pitfalls specific to Google Ads

Conversions arrive late. A click on Monday can convert on Thursday, so a Tuesday check that judges yesterday's keywords on conversions will call good keywords wasteful. Judge on 14 or 30 days, or on completed weeks.

Recommendations are Google's, not yours. Many of them raise budgets or broaden match types. Ask your dot to summarise each recommendation with its expected effect before applying any, and never schedule "apply all recommendations".

Keep scheduled instructions narrow. An instruction like "fix whatever looks wrong every morning" invites changes you did not expect. A scheduled prompt should read and report; a change should be a separate request you can see. If you want the reasoning behind these checks, the Google Ads audit checklist goes deeper.

Honest limits

Every tool call counts toward your MCP Ads plan, and a keyword-level report on a large account is several calls. Ask for the level of detail you will act on. Your dot works from what the Google Ads API returns, so a report is as good as your conversion tracking; if conversions are wrong in Google Ads, they are wrong in your dot's summary too.

MCP Ads is free for 30 tool calls a month, then $49/month flat for unlimited. Your first dot is included in ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost. See pricing.

FAQ

Can OpenAI Dots manage Google Ads?

Yes, through MCP Ads. Your dot uses the MCP Ads connector you add in ChatGPT, and then reads and changes the Google Ads accounts you connected in MCP Ads.

Will your dot launch campaigns on its own?

No. Campaigns and ad groups created through MCP Ads start paused, and budgets, statuses and new campaigns go through MCP Ads approval controls before they go live.

Can it work with a manager (MCC) account?

Yes. Your dot can list the client accounts under a manager account; name the client account you mean in each request.

Does your dot see Performance Max search terms?

It sees the search-term insights Google reports for Performance Max campaigns, alongside regular search terms for Search campaigns.
