TikTok Ads

35 tools for TikTok campaign management: advertisers, campaigns, ad groups, ads, custom and lookalike audiences, pixels, image and video assets, targeting lookups and reports. TikTok performance changes at the creative and ad-group level before the account-level numbers look alarming, so the integration is built for short, frequent checks rather than a monthly review.

What you can do

A campaign can look stable while one creative is burning out or one ad group is absorbing spend inefficiently. Claude can inspect advertisers, campaigns, ad groups, ads, pixels, custom audiences, lookalikes, images, videos, targeting options and reports, which means the operator asks one question and gets from the performance symptom to the specific ad group, ad, audience or asset that needs action.

  • Report at campaign, ad group and ad level, plus custom report definitions for columns the standard views omit
  • Create campaigns, ad groups and ads
  • Build custom audiences and lookalikes from them, and list existing ones to find stale segments
  • Upload image creative and list the image and video assets already in the account
  • Inspect the pixels behind conversion tracking and their events
  • Look up targeting options by interest, behaviour or location before building an ad group

Connect the account

TikTok connects through a managed browser authorisation flow rather than a manual API setup. You sign in to TikTok for Business, approve the permission screen, and MCP Ads holds the grant. There are no TikTok developer app credentials to create or paste.

  1. Open Connections and pick TikTok Ads

From the MCP Ads dashboard, choose TikTok Ads. The browser opens TikTok for Business's authorisation page.

  2. Sign in with the login that has an Ads Manager role

You need an Admin or Operator role on the TikTok Ads Manager account, granted in Business Center. A personal TikTok creator login with no Business Center membership authorises cleanly and then reaches no advertisers.

  3. Select the advertiser accounts Claude should reach

TikTok identifies each ad account by an advertiser ID. The dashboard lists every advertiser your role covers; if you manage several clients, they all appear and you name the one you mean in each request.

  4. Verify with a simple prompt

Yesterday's spend by campaign is the right first check: it proves the advertiser, the date handling and the report tools together before you run anything more complex.

    Try this first
List my TikTok advertiser accounts, then show yesterday's
spend, CPA, CTR and conversions by campaign on the main one,
and flag any ad group whose CTR fell while spend rose.

Best first workflows

The strongest TikTok workflows are short and frequent: daily spend checks, ad-level creative summaries, ad-group comparisons and audience refresh reviews. Claude should prepare recommendations and explain the data behind them; for meaningful campaign changes, keep a human approval step before launch or budget updates.

  • Show yesterday's spend, CPA, CTR and conversions by campaign
  • Find ads with rising spend and falling CTR
  • Summarise ad groups with weak conversion rate
  • List custom audiences and identify stale segments

Safety on this platform

Note

Write actions require an Admin or Operator role on the advertiser; with a lower role the same tools return a permission error. Campaign creation on TikTok is a multi-step process (campaign, then ad group, then ad), and nothing delivers until all three exist and the campaign is enabled, so a report cannot start spending as a side effect.

Troubleshooting

  • Authorisation succeeds but no advertisers are listed: the TikTok login is not a member of the Business Center that owns the ad account, or has no role on that advertiser. Ask the Business Center admin to add the login under Members and assign the advertiser.
  • Reports work but creating an ad group fails: the role is Analyst rather than Operator or Admin, or the ad group is missing a required setting TikTok enforces (placement, optimisation goal or a pixel for a conversion objective). The error names the missing field.
  • Yesterday's numbers keep changing: TikTok attributes conversions for up to seven days after the click, so recent days grow for a week. Compare completed weeks when you need a stable number.
  • An image upload is rejected: TikTok enforces size, aspect ratio and file format per placement. Ask Claude for the accepted specs and re-export the asset rather than retrying the same file.

Common questions

Do I need a TikTok Business account?

You need access to a TikTok Ads Manager account with an admin or operator role. A personal creator account is not enough.

Can it upload video creative?

Image upload and creative asset management are exposed. Check the tool reference for the current video surface rather than assuming — it changes as the TikTok API changes.

Can it build lookalikes?

Yes. You create a custom audience first, then build a lookalike from it, which is the same order TikTok requires in the interface.

Do I need TikTok developer app credentials?

No. TikTok Ads connects through browser-based managed authorisation, so you never create a developer app or paste an app ID, secret or access token. Sign in, approve, and MCP Ads holds the grant.
