What your dot can see in TikTok Ads
Through MCP Ads, your dot can list your advertiser accounts, read advertiser info and account balance, list campaigns, ad groups and ads, and run reports at each of those levels. The default report columns are spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, CPM, conversions and cost per conversion; a custom report accepts any metrics and dimensions TikTok's reporting supports. It can also list pixels, custom audiences, and the image and video assets already in the account, and look up targeting options such as regions and interest keywords.
The TikTok Ads MCP page lists the full set of tools.
Connect it in a few minutes
Dots use the same apps and connectors as ChatGPT, so MCP Ads is added once in ChatGPT and your dot can then use it. The MCP Ads plugin is in review for the ChatGPT plugin directory; until it is listed, you add it as a custom connector in Developer mode. There is no API key to copy: you sign in through the browser.
TikTok Ads connects through MCP Ads' own TikTok sign-in: open Connections in the MCP Ads dashboard, choose TikTok Ads and approve on TikTok for Business. Sign in with the login that has a role on the ad account in Business Center. A creator login with no Business Center membership signs in fine and then reaches no advertisers.
In a Business workspace, custom connectors may need an admin to turn on Developer mode first. The Dots setup page and the Dots docs have the same steps.
Dots follow ChatGPT's permissions, and you can add rules for which tasks need your approval. Research a dot does on its own is read-only; tasks you give it or schedule can act, under their own rules and approvals, on top of the approval controls in MCP Ads.
The steps:
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins → Browse plugins, and turn on Developer mode if custom connectors are not offered yet.
- Add a custom connector named MCP Ads with the URL https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim.
- Sign in through the browser window that opens, with the login that owns your MCP Ads account.
- Let your dot use the MCP Ads app, then ask it: "Once you are in, list my TikTok advertiser accounts and show yesterday's spend, CPA and CTR by campaign on the main one."
Which report answers which question
Start at campaign level to see where money went, then go down one level at a time. An agent is most useful when you tell it to stop at the level where the answer is.
| Question | Report level | Signal |
|---|---|---|
| Where did the money go? | Campaign | Spend and cost per conversion against target |
| Which audience is absorbing spend? | Ad group | Share of spend against share of conversions |
| Which video is wearing out? | Ad | CTR falling while spend holds or rises |
| Will delivery stop? | Account balance | Balance against recent daily spend |
Prompts that work
Name the advertiser if you have more than one, and give a date range. For scheduled prompts, give a threshold so the check stays quiet on a normal day.
- Show last week's TikTok spend, conversions and cost per conversion by ad group, sorted by spend.
- Find ads whose CTR fell by more than a quarter this week while spend went up.
- List my custom audiences and tell me which ones no active ad group uses.
- Draft a paused traffic campaign with a daily budget of $50, and show me the settings before creating it.
- Every morning at 8, check yesterday's TikTok spend by campaign and message me only if a campaign's cost per conversion was more than 40% above its 14-day average.
- Every Monday at 9, compare last week with the week before by ad and name the three ads to replace.
- Every Friday at 3 pm, check the account balance against the last 7 days of spend and tell me if it will not last the weekend.
Making changes, and the setting to insist on
Your dot can create campaigns, ad groups and ads, update and pause them, create custom and lookalike audiences, manage pixels, and upload images and videos. A campaign needs a name and an objective: traffic, reach, video views, lead generation, web conversions, engagement or app promotion.
Two details matter. First, like the Google and Meta tools, a new TikTok campaign is created paused (TikTok calls it operation_status DISABLE) unless you ask to launch it, so nothing spends until you enable it. Second, a campaign budget needs a budget mode, per day or over the campaign's life. If your dot sends a budget without one, MCP Ads refuses and asks which was meant, because the two spend very different amounts.
Budgets, statuses and new campaigns go through the approval and workspace controls in MCP Ads, so a change your dot prepares goes live when you approve it. Write actions also need an Admin or Operator role on the advertiser; with a lower role the same request returns a permission error.
Pitfalls and honest limits
Recent days keep moving. TikTok attributes conversions after the click, so yesterday's cost per conversion is usually worse than it will look in a week. For scheduled comparisons, compare completed weeks. Creative uploads are checked against TikTok's size and format rules, and a rejected file needs re-exporting rather than retrying.
Your dot sees only the advertisers connected in MCP Ads, and every tool call counts toward your MCP Ads plan. MCP Ads is free for 30 tool calls a month, then $49/month flat for unlimited; see pricing.
