Connecting TikTok Ads
TikTok Ads connects in the MCP Ads dashboard at /manage with TikTok’s own sign-in: click Connect on the TikTok Ads tile, approve on TikTok’s page, and you come back connected. Organic TikTok posting (used by the content calendar) is a separate connection, so connecting one does not give access to the other.
Once connected, the Bot can list the advertiser accounts the connection manages and work with any of them. More detail is on the TikTok Ads MCP page.
Connect it in a minute
Before you paste it, open the MCP Ads dashboard, go to Connect MCP → API keys and create a key. It is shown once, so copy it then. Make one key per Bot, so you can revoke one without breaking the others. Grok Bot's sign-in flow for custom servers does not complete today, which is why the Bot uses the key header; in Grok chat or Grok Build you can instead add a custom connector at grok.com/connectors with the same URL and sign in with the browser.
Then paste this into Grok Bot:
Connectors in Grok are account-wide, so once MCP Ads is added every Bot you make can use it. The Bot sees only the platforms and ad accounts you connected in MCP Ads, under the same workspace scope as the web app. MCP Ads is a free trial, then $49/month flat; Grok bills its own usage separately. The full setup is on the Grok Bot page and in the quickstart.
- Add a custom MCP connector:
- - Name: MCP Ads
- - URL: https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim
- - Header: Authorization: Bearer <paste your mcp_live_ key>
- Then list my TikTok advertiser accounts, show the account balance, and tell me which campaign had the highest cost per conversion in the last 7 days.
What the Bot can read
Reports come at three levels. The campaign report returns spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, CPM, conversions and cost per conversion for a date range, the last 28 days if you do not give one. The ad group and ad reports go further down, and a custom report accepts any of TikTok’s reporting parameters when you need a dimension the standard ones do not cover.
Beyond reporting, the Bot can read advertiser info and account balance, list campaigns, ad groups and ads with their settings, list image and video assets, list pixels, and list custom audiences. It can also query TikTok’s targeting tools, such as regions and interest keyword suggestions.
| Question | Where the answer comes from |
|---|---|
| Which campaign is most efficient? | Campaign report: spend, conversions, cost per conversion |
| Which ad has stopped working? | Ad report compared week on week: CTR and cost per conversion |
| Will the account stop delivering? | Account balance |
| Is tracking firing? | Pixel list and conversions in the reports |
| Who can we retarget? | Custom audiences and lookalikes |
Prompts to give the Bot
Ad-level comparisons are the most useful scheduled check on TikTok, because a campaign total can look steady while the ad carrying it fades. The numbers below are illustrative.
- “Every day at 9, compare each TikTok ad’s CTR and cost per conversion over the last 3 days with the 7 days before. Tell me any ad where cost per conversion rose by more than 30%. Stay silent otherwise.”
- “Every Monday at 8, message me last week’s TikTok spend, conversions and cost per conversion by campaign, with the change from the week before.”
- “Every morning, check the TikTok account balance and warn me if it will not cover three more days at the current spend.”
- “Which ad groups spent the most with no conversions this month? Propose which to disable, but wait for my OK.”
- “List my TikTok pixels and tell me whether conversions are being recorded in the reports.”
- “Draft a Traffic campaign, paused, with a $40 daily campaign budget. Show me the settings before creating it.”
Building campaigns, and what needs your approval
The Bot can create campaigns, ad groups and ads, and update them. TikTok needs two decisions for a campaign: the objective (Traffic, Reach, Video views, Lead generation, Web conversions, Engagement or App promotion) and, if the campaign carries a budget, whether it is daily or for the campaign’s whole life. MCP Ads asks rather than picking one, because a $500 daily budget and a $500 lifetime budget are very different amounts of money.
New campaigns are created paused; in TikTok’s terms that is the DISABLE status. Every write, including status and budget changes, goes through MCP Ads approval and goes live when you approve it.
Honest limits
The TikTok tools pass TikTok’s own field names through, so building an ad group or ad by hand involves a lot of TikTok-specific settings. The Bot handles that, but checking its proposed settings before approval is worth the minute.
Video assets must already be in the ad account or reachable for upload; the Bot cannot film or edit video. And conversions are only as good as your pixel setup, so a sudden rise in cost per conversion is worth checking against the pixel before you cut spend.
