What Muse can see in Google Ads
Once connected, Muse reaches the same Google Ads reports you would open one by one: an account overview with spend, clicks, conversions, CTR, average CPC and ROAS; a daily trend; campaign, ad group, keyword and ad performance; the search terms that actually triggered your ads, with search-term insights for Performance Max campaigns; and breakdowns by device, location, hour of day, age and gender, and landing page.
The diagnostic reports matter most for a scheduled agent. Budget pacing shows each active campaign's daily budget against what it has spent. Auction insights shows impression share and how much of it was lost to budget versus rank. Quality score returns the overall score with its three parts: landing page experience, expected CTR and ad relevance. Change history lists what changed, when and by whom. If you manage client accounts, Muse can list every account under a manager (MCC) account; name the one you mean in each request. The Google Ads MCP server page lists the full set.
Connect it in 30 seconds
Muse has no connector settings screen, so there is nothing to click through. You send it one message that says where MCP Ads is. Muse replies with a sign-in link, you approve it, and Muse tests the tools and saves them for later conversations and scheduled checks.
Connect Google Ads first under Connections in the MCP Ads dashboard. It uses your Google sign-in, and the same sign-in later covers GA4, Search Console and Merchant Center, each with its own permission.
If Muse asks for a credential instead of sending a link, create an API key in the MCP Ads dashboard under Connect MCP → API keys and paste it into Muse's secure credential prompt, not into the chat. If it asks for a client ID or client secret, leave both empty. MCP Ads is not in Muse's connector directory yet, so this message is the way in; the Muse setup page has the same steps.
Paste these lines into Muse as a single message:
- Add my MCP Ads connector: https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim
- Setup: standard MCP over streamable HTTP with OAuth. Send me the sign-in link and I will approve it. Keep one session (Mcp-Session-Id) for all calls.
- Skill: save one so every question about my ads, analytics or SEO goes through MCP Ads tools first.
- Once you are in, list my Google Ads accounts and tell me one thing in the main account I should fix today.
Checks worth scheduling
A scheduled check is only useful if it stays quiet when nothing is wrong. Give each one a threshold and tell Muse to report only what crossed it. The thresholds below are illustrative; set them from your own account's normal range.
| Check | Cadence | What Muse looks at | Report only when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wasted search terms | Weekly | Search terms, last 7 or 30 days | A term spent over your limit with no conversions |
| Budget pacing | Daily, midday | Daily budget against spend so far | A campaign is on track to run out early |
| Lost impression share | Weekly | Auction insights per campaign | Share lost to budget or rank rose week on week |
| Unexpected changes | Monday | Change history, last 7 days | Someone paused, enabled or re-budgeted a campaign |
| Quality score drift | Monthly | Keyword quality score and its three parts | A high-spend keyword dropped a point or more |
| Conversion setup | Monthly | Conversion actions in the account | An action is missing, disabled or counted twice |
Prompts that work
Name the account, the date range and the threshold. For scheduled prompts, say what the report should contain and what it should leave out.
- Find search terms with over $50 spend and zero conversions in the last 30 days and group them into negative keyword themes. Do not add anything yet.
- Which campaigns lost the most impression share to budget last week, and which lost it to rank?
- Show keywords with quality score below 5 that spent more than $100 this month, with the weakest of the three components for each.
- Compare this week with last week by device and tell me if mobile CPA moved more than 20%.
- Every Monday at 9, pull last week in Google Ads and send me spend, conversions and the one campaign that needs attention.
- Every weekday at 1 pm, check budget pacing and message me only if a campaign has already spent more than 80% of its daily budget.
- Every Monday at 8, list changes made in the account in the last 7 days that I did not ask you to make.
What Muse can change, and what waits for you
On the write side, MCP Ads gives Muse campaign-level negative keywords and shared negative lists, pausing and enabling campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords, daily budgets, keyword bids and match types, target CPA and target ROAS, responsive search ads, sitelinks and callouts, ad schedules, location and language targets, applying or dismissing Google's recommendations, and copying a campaign. New campaigns and ad groups are created paused unless you say otherwise, so nothing spends until someone switches it on.
Budgets, statuses and new campaigns go through the approval and workspace controls in MCP Ads. Muse can prepare the change, such as a list of 14 negatives or a budget move from one campaign to another, and it goes live when you approve it. Muse also sees only the Google Ads accounts connected in MCP Ads.
Pitfalls specific to Google Ads
Conversions arrive late. A click on Monday can convert on Thursday, so a Tuesday check that judges yesterday's keywords on conversions will call good keywords wasteful. Judge on 14 or 30 days, or on completed weeks.
Recommendations are Google's, not yours. Many of them raise budgets or broaden match types. Ask Muse to summarise each recommendation with its expected effect before applying any, and never schedule "apply all recommendations".
Keep scheduled instructions narrow. An instruction like "fix whatever looks wrong every morning" invites changes you did not expect. A scheduled prompt should read and report; a change should be a separate request you can see. If you want the reasoning behind these checks, the Google Ads audit checklist goes deeper.
Honest limits
Every tool call counts against your Muse usage, and a keyword-level report on a large account is several calls. Ask for the level of detail you will act on. Muse works from what the Google Ads API returns, so a report is as good as your conversion tracking; if conversions are wrong in Google Ads, they are wrong in Muse's summary too.
MCP Ads costs a free trial, then $49/month flat, with Muse usage billed separately by Muse. See pricing.
