Why LinkedIn Ads rewards frequent checks
LinkedIn's strength is targeting by job title, company, industry and seniority, and its cost is high clicks. That combination makes small mistakes expensive: a campaign with a broad audience expansion setting, a creative that only gets likes from colleagues, a Lead Gen Form nobody follows up. Checking every few days by text keeps those from running for a month.
LinkedIn also reports two kinds of conversion that people mix up. One-click leads come from Lead Gen Forms filled in on LinkedIn; website conversions come from the Insight Tag on your site. Asking for both side by side avoids a lot of confusion about why the CRM and the dashboard disagree.
Connect it in a minute
Connect LinkedIn Ads in the MCP Ads dashboard at /manage with LinkedIn sign-in. You will see the ad accounts your LinkedIn user can access.
Create an API key under Connect MCP, then API keys (copy it, it is shown once), and text Instinct:
Connect MCP Ads for me. It is a remote MCP server: URL https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim, auth header Authorization: Bearer <paste your mcp_live_ key>. Keep it connected and use it for any question about my ads, analytics or SEO.
The key is for Instinct alone, and revoking it in the dashboard cuts access at once. The LinkedIn Ads MCP page and the LinkedIn Ads docs list what MCP Ads covers.
What it can read
LinkedIn organises ads as campaign groups, campaigns and creatives. MCP Ads can list each, read their settings, and pull analytics pivoted by campaign, campaign group or creative for a date range.
| Question | What it looks at |
|---|---|
| What did we spend and get? | Campaign report: impressions, clicks, spend in local currency, conversions, one-click leads |
| Which creative is working? | Creative report with the same metrics per ad |
| How is the whole programme doing? | Campaign group report |
| What counts as a conversion? | The account's conversion rules |
| How big is this audience? | Audience count estimate for a targeting set |
| What is the ID for this title or company? | Targeting entity search: locations, industries, skills, titles, companies |
Things to text
Name the ad account if you have more than one and give a date range; LinkedIn reports are by date range, not rolling windows.
- "What did LinkedIn spend this month, and how many Lead Gen Form leads did we get per campaign?"
- "Which creative has the lowest cost per lead in the last 30 days?"
- "Split conversions into Lead Gen Form leads and website conversions for September."
- "How big is an audience of Head of Marketing titles at companies in Germany?"
- "Pause the Webinar Retargeting campaign. Show me before you do it."
- "Text me on Mondays with last week's LinkedIn spend and leads."
- "Which conversion rules are set up on this account?"
Reading LinkedIn numbers
An illustrative answer, with invented numbers: "This month: 1,940 in spend, 312 clicks, 21 Lead Gen Form leads and 4 website conversions. Creative B has 14 of the leads at about half the cost of creative A, which has more likes but fewer leads." Social actions are real engagement, but they are not the goal of a lead campaign, and LinkedIn creatives often split this way.
Spend comes back in the account's local currency, so say which currency you want if you compare with other platforms. Audience size estimates are LinkedIn's own and approximate; LinkedIn also has a minimum audience size below which a campaign will not run, so check the estimate before you narrow targeting further.
What it will not do without you
MCP Ads can create campaign groups, campaigns and creatives, and update them (for example, setting a campaign's status to paused). New campaigns created through MCP Ads start as drafts unless a status is given, so nothing spends until someone activates it. Budgets, statuses and new campaigns go through MCP Ads' approval and workspace controls, and viewer seats cannot make changes.
In practice, use Instinct to pause a campaign that is burning budget, check a change before it goes live, or draft a new campaign that you finish in Campaign Manager. It prepares the change; it goes live when you approve it.
The honest limits
LinkedIn's campaign and creative bodies are detailed, and building one from scratch by text is error-prone. MCP Ads accepts LinkedIn's own structures, which suits specific edits better than full builds from a phone. Lead details themselves follow LinkedIn's rules; this guide does not promise Instinct can read individual lead records.
MCP Ads sees only the LinkedIn ad accounts your sign-in can reach. It comes with a free trial, then $49/month flat; see pricing, or follow the quickstart.
