Why Merchant Center needs a watcher
Merchant Center problems are silent. A product loses its approval because the price on the landing page no longer matches the feed, or a shipping setting is missing for a new country, and it just stops appearing in Shopping ads and free listings. Sales dip, and it takes days to connect the dip to the cause.
A daily text that says "3 products newly disapproved, all for price mismatch" is far more useful than a dashboard you open when something already feels wrong. That is the main job for Instinct here: check, explain, and tell you when the count changes.
Connect it in a minute
Connect Merchant Center in the MCP Ads dashboard at /manage. It uses the same Google sign-in as Google Ads, with its own permission. Advanced (multi-client) accounts list their sub-accounts, so you can name the store you mean.
Create an API key under Connect MCP, then API keys (it is shown once, so copy it), and text Instinct:
Connect MCP Ads for me. It is a remote MCP server: URL https://mcp-ads.com/mcp-slim, auth header Authorization: Bearer <paste your mcp_live_ key>. Keep it connected and use it for any question about my ads, analytics or SEO.
Make the key for Instinct alone and revoke it from the dashboard whenever you want. The Merchant Center MCP page and the Merchant Center connection list what MCP Ads covers.
What it can read
MCP Ads reaches Merchant Center's product, account and reporting data. The views below cover most day-to-day questions.
| Question | What it looks at |
|---|---|
| How many products are disapproved? | Status summary: approved, pending, disapproved per country and destination, with top issues |
| Why is this product disapproved? | The product's issues rendered with explanation and fix steps |
| Is anything wrong with the account? | Account issues: suspensions, policy warnings, missing settings |
| Are Shopping ads and free listings on? | Programmes and their unmet requirements |
| Did the feed update? | Data sources and file upload results |
| Which products get clicks? | Product performance: clicks, impressions, CTR, conversions, conversion value |
Things to text
Name the Merchant Center account if you have several, and say which country you sell in when it matters.
- "How many products are disapproved right now, and what are the top three reasons?"
- "Why is the blue linen shirt disapproved, and how do I fix it?"
- "Are there any account-level issues or warnings in Merchant Center?"
- "Fetch the main product feed now and tell me what changed."
- "Which 20 products had the most Shopping clicks last month, and which of them converted?"
- "Are our prices above or below competitors for the top sellers?"
- "Text me every morning if the number of disapproved products went up."
Reading the answers
An illustrative reply, with invented numbers: "US, Shopping ads: 1,204 approved, 18 pending, 37 disapproved. Top issues: price mismatch (22), missing shipping (9), image too small (6)." Disapprovals are per destination and country, so a product can be fine in free listings and disapproved in Shopping ads, or approved in one country and not another. Ask for the split when numbers look inconsistent.
Merchant Center's report tables include price competitiveness and price insights, best sellers and competitive visibility, where Google provides them for your account. They answer "are we too expensive?" better than guessing. Click and conversion data here is Merchant Center's view; for spend and ROAS, ask the same question of Google Ads, which reports Shopping performance by product. The ecommerce PPC guide covers how the two fit together.
What it will not do without you
MCP Ads can change product attributes, fetch a feed on demand, and enable or disable programmes, and it can also change shipping, return policies and account settings. Several of these tools are explicitly marked to confirm with you first, including disabling a programme (its listings stop serving), deleting a data source and accepting terms of service. Treat every Merchant Center write as something to read back before you say yes.
For lasting product fixes, change the source: if a product comes from a file feed or your store platform, correcting it there stops the old value coming back on the next fetch. A quick fix through Instinct is useful for a single urgent product, but the feed is where the fix belongs.
The honest limits
Instinct can explain Google's reasons and fix steps, but some fixes live on your website (a landing page price, structured data, a missing policy page), and those need you or your developer. Reviews after a fix are Google's and take their own time.
MCP Ads sees the Merchant Center accounts your Google login can reach. If you sell online and run Shopping or Performance Max, the ecommerce page shows how the pieces connect. MCP Ads comes with a free trial, then $49/month flat; see pricing.
